Be Dead

Pastor Richard Wurmbrand tells a story in his devotional book, Reaching Towards The Heights.

A man asked a friend some advice. "When someone does not like my preaching I am offended. When someone does like my preaching and they pay me a compliment I am afraid that my pride will be inflated. What shall I do?"

His friend answered, "Go spend the night in the cemetery. For half of the night curse the graves on your right and for half the night bless the graves on your left. See how the people react and then go home and react the same."

When King David was cursed and stoned by Shimei in 2 Samuel 16 David's response to his men was to leave Shimei alone. "It may be that the Lord will look on the iniquity done me and will recompense me with good for his cursing this day" (2 Samuel 16:12).

"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me" (Galatians 2:20).

Dead people cannot be complimented nor can they retaliate.
